Does this exist, and if and so could anyone tell me where I tin can download information technology?

Only looking for a free version that I can download, don't desire to use the app store and don't have iLife.

I don't need a new and fancy version, something basic is fine - just looking for the latest I can go for gratuitous on 10.half dozen.5 if such a thing exists.

No it does not exist. The iLife suite in of itself (older versions of it) are not free and there isn't a standalone version that is gratis other than the electric current version which will not work on Snowfall Leopard.

Why are you staying with 10.6.5?

iLife '09 volition be not bad for ten.6
(run your Organization Update to do all updates, which will update a diversity of parts of your system.)

Merely realised my original software reinstall bulldoze (or the one that came with the laptop anyway - factory slim white apple 8gb stick) says on information technology "Mac OSX v10.6, iLife '11".

I tried installing GB (alone) off information technology merely it fails with no reason given. It's the same bulldoze I used for installing OSX and had no problems (it has 10.6.5 on it).

Is it merely the bulldoze being flaky? Seems odd to include an incompatible version.

But realised my original software reinstall bulldoze (or the 1 that came with the laptop anyway - manufacturing plant slim white apple 8gb stick) says on it "Mac OSX v10.6, iLife 'xi".
...
Is it just the drive being flaky? Seems odd to include an incompatible version.

Where did yous go the "factory slim white apple 8gb stick"?
Apple never supplied Bone 10 on a flash bulldoze, prior Lion (OS X 10.seven)

All the same should piece of work, merely Apple didn't provide that.
Did you run the iLife installer, and select a custom install of just Garageband?
Or, just try a file copy from the installer (which will not work)?
Have you tried merely letting iLife install, without changing whatsoever settings? You tin can always just trash the apps that you don't want to go on.

Is at that place some reason that you don't upgrade your OS X system to 10.vi.eight? Yous can run Software Update, or but download and install the combined updater directly from Apple - from here: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399

Where did you get the "factory slim white apple tree 8gb stick"?
Apple never supplied Os X on a flash drive, prior Panthera leo (Os X ten.7)

Notwithstanding should piece of work, only Apple didn't provide that.

It's from Apple. The 2010 Macbook Air came with a USB software restore key which had 10.6.iv or x.6.5 on it.

Yes Apple did provide it, it's the i described in the postal service above. That is coincidentally my machine exactly - Tardily 'ten MBA and the Apple tree stick has 10.vi.5 and iLife 'xi on information technology. I'grand a scrap surprised that people here said but GB from iLife '09 would work but it seems the reckoner came with '11 - confused.

I ran the installer, and chose a custom install of only GarageBand (and the compulsory iLife files which you can't united nations-check). I did not try installing everything but I really don't desire to do that. Plenty of free space on deejay etc.

It doesn't try to practise much and speedily says an unknown error occurred, is there a log somewhere I could cheque?

Unless you have a specially compelling reason not to update to x.6.8, run Software Update and apply all the updates that announced. It brand take more than one circular of update/restart to go them all. (Also annotation that all the updates yous become in Software Update are free.) And then see if Garageband installs. If it does, y'all'll need to run Software Update again to get updates for Garageband.
